BRENTWOOD, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 23, 2002 Completed Two Hospital Acquisitions During Third Quarter Adding 217 Beds Community Health Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CYH) today announced strong financial and operating results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2002. Net operating revenues for the third quarter ended September 30, 2002, totaled $552.8 million, a 32.7% increase compared with $416.6 million for the same period last year. EBITDA for the third quarter of 2002 was $87.3 million, compared with $74.0 million for the same period last year, representing an 18.0% increase. Income before extraordinary item was $25.4 million, or $0.25 per share (diluted), compared with $10.0 million, or $0.11 per share (diluted), for the same period last year.
