Bank Mutual Corporation Reports First Quarter Earnings Increase.

MILWAUKEE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 17, 2002

Bank Mutual Corporation (Nasdaq:BKMU) reported a substantial increase in earnings for the first quarter of 2002 as compared to the first quarter of 2001. Net income was $6.3 million or $0.29 diluted earnings per share for the first quarter ended March 31, 2002, a 31.8% increase, as compared to $4.8 million or $0.22 diluted earnings per share for the first quarter of 2001. Earnings increased as a result of increased net interest margins, the elimination of the goodwill amortization and continued gains from the sales of loans.
